Where possible, and where quality is not compromised, Literacy and extending writing will be linked to the thematic curriculum.
Literacy is taught daily in all classes. Children who are working below their age-related level, are taught RWI or Fresh Start sessions to accelerate their reading skills and are taught in smaller intervention groups.
Children who are not involved in RWI or Fresh Start sessions are involved in guided reading which takes place daily in class.
Spelling, punctuation and grammar is taught daily in all classes using Purple Mash (more information is detailed under our ‘Writing’ section)
The English curriculum is a holistic approach which incorporates the current term’s theme. Books are carefully selected in order to embed and enrich pupil’s knowledge and understanding of the subject.
